Supporting you in your quest for optimal health and wellbeing

A little more about me and my Pilates journey

I first discovered Pilates back in 2000, quite by chance. While driving in Sydney I noticed a sign for a Pilates studio, and at the time thought to myself, “What is Pilates? And how do you even say it?” That moment sparked my curiosity, so as soon as I got home, I went online to do a bit of research and see if there were any local studios nearby.

From the start, the sound of Pilates as a form of exercise really appealed to me. I’ve always enjoyed being active, but had often found myself reluctant to join organised sports and teams because I seemed to get injured so easily. From late primary school onwards, I was in and out of the physio for all sorts of issues – knee pain, endless ankle sprains from netball, and even a sore neck after a school trip to Wonderland, thanks to a rollercoaster! Pilates seemed like the perfect alternative: low-impact, focused on strength and movement, and far less likely to lead to injury.

When I contacted the local studio, I was in for a wonderful surprise. The person on the other end of the phone was my old physiotherapist – the one who’d treated me as a teenager for my knee pain. She even remembered me! I booked in for a session, and from that very first class, I was completely hooked.

Over time, my passion for Pilates only grew. In 2002, I began working at a rehab-focused Physiotherapy and Pilates clinic, which provided the opportunity to specialise in Pilates-based rehabilitative exercise, helping people from all walks of life. There were young gymnasts dealing with spinal injuries, women staying active through pregnancy, and clients managing back or pelvic pain. Some were even referred by neurosurgeons, looking to avoid surgery through the kind of targeted, prescriptive exercise Pilates can offer. Seeing the difference that Pilates made to so many people’s lives was truly inspiring.

When I became the owner of Body In Line in 2017, I was amazed by what I discovered. The clients in Gerringong were moving so much better than many people half their age. It was such a joy to see that age doesn’t have to dictate your health or how well you move. Pilates really does have the power to transform lives – no matter who you are or where you’re starting from.

This foundation sparked a deeper passion for helping people age well. I truly believe in the power of Pilates to help maintain muscle strength, bone density, flexibility, and overall mobility as we grow older. Ageing doesn’t have to mean a decline in movement or vitality. With regular Pilates, it’s possible to move with confidence, stay strong, and keep doing the things you love for years to come. Helping people achieve that is what motivates me every day, and it’s a privilege to see how Pilates can play such an important role in creating healthier, more active lives.
