Wanting to achieve greater strength, flexibility and increase your stamina? Then the answer comes in the form on an apparatus called the Reformer! It’s a special piece of equipment that we use at the Body in Line studio (we have four of them) to give you a more targeted and dynamic workout – often lying down. ‘Yes!’ I hear you say – and it’s exactly the words that come out of the mouths of many of our studio clients.
The benefits that come with the Pilates Reformer run deep – literally. The muscles targeted go right to the core of your body. You’ll notice physical changes (you’ll look great) but you’ll also start to feel great as your strength builds.
Now, Reformer Pilates is a great place to start no matter what your level of fitness as the exercises can be tailored. It enables you to be challenged and at the same time strengthening you in multiple ways. You do, however, need to maintain regular workouts, it is not a once in a blue moon kind of thing, but if you do it is certainly highly effective and will help achieve great results.
You’ve probably seen the Reformer if you’ve attended mat classes at a Pilates studio. It’s fitted out with straps, springs, pullies and a sliding carriage. The origins of the Pilates Reformer date back to the original Pilates studio in New York in the 1920’s, and was designed by Joseph Pilates himself.
You may think it looks complicated and perhaps mainly suitable for people that are rehabilitating (or like torturing themselves), but trust us, the Reformer is the all-round good guy (or girl) and is suitable for everyone and anyone. It’s a super-useful tool that can take your workout to heights you never knew existed. Using the springs, leverage and body weight as resistance, you perform controlled movements to target specific muscle groups.
You could be someone that has a desk job and doesn’t move much, or a cross-fit fitness freak, a mum to be or someone that needs rehabilitation. The Reformer is ideal for any stage of your physical fitness and exercise program and can be adapted by qualified instructors to target the areas you need to focus on.
Our message is a simple one, don’t lie there wondering, book a session with one of the Body in Line instructors to take you through the workings of this fabulous contraption. We can guarantee that after one round on the Reformer, you’ll want to come back for more. And with the lean, toned muscles and greater flexibility you’ll gain, don’t be surprised if you get hooked on the Pilates Reformer.
What do you have to lose? It’s exercise lying down right? As we said, anyone can do this!
